I have not tested the portions that I changed but most of this was built and tested by Ovi. Let me know if this looks ok and if anyone builds it please post the build here.

P-T269JX TRANSFORMER, POWER, HAMMOND, 250-0-250 V, 60 mA (Cost=$40)

Hi guys,

found two transformers for a hundred us dollars shipping and all.....the hammond 250-0-250.

Hope it works out.....I need to build one for my bro in law, and myself.

hope if i want to make a complete amp later it will be big enough.

OH yea is this a fair price?

I ordered out all the parts to build two of these preamps with the hammond 369jx 250-0-250.

I will let you know in a week ....got to get one going by christmas.

I am seeing close to a hundred us dollars in parts each and not sure i can get another deal on the transformers again. and this is not counting a cab to put the preamps in.

For now I have some nice rack mounted cases i will use.

any suggestions for the lettering would be great.

I will let you know how these new values work out with the hammond 269 jx with the center tap.

Question:......which type of power transformer is prefered....with or without center tap?????????

thanks for any advise......and i appreciate the nice drawings and parts list too.

gd.

oh yea i have preamp tubes already so that would be a little more on the budget......will try 12au7's as well as 12ax7's....and who knows i might add an output transformer and a 6l6 tube to the one i am building for myself along with a rectifier tube. got to ck out the specs a little better on the transformers i ordered though.

I am playing through a peavy windsor with one 6l6 power tube now and it has just the right power for the praise and worship band at church.

I am first going to use the power amp section of the windsor though.....who knows....i might be so freaked out over this preamp and gut the peavy....it has not got a very good clean channel....and the lead is not as tight as i like it.

like i said any advise is appreciated.......davis

So excited......got enough junk coming in to build at least two of these......

I dont think we will be disappointed with the outcome. I have been saving tweaks from here and there if needed. I guess for now i will just use project board and wire point to point with teflon wire.

as for chassis i have several rack mounted power supplies that i am stripping the transformer out to make place for the hammond power trans. It has a nice alum. insert to mount board and tube sockets on. The face is blank so i will drill out for front pots and in and output jacks. the rear is already wired and fused for ac. lots of air supply for just two tubes. Lots of room for more stuff......

I have a well to do bro in law that i have promised one...so i have to be busy this next week.....that is all i have to get done though before christmas.

If he is stoked about it i may get him to help me buy in quanity transformers chokes tubes and such.

i am going to make my own chassis and shopped for equip this week. would love to buy small cnc machine. tig welder and sheet metal bender.

I have been building high power transistor and tube type rf ham/cb type amps and want to do something different and legal too....some of the amps if used by cbers are not legal. I just want to build rf stuff for my own pleasure with ham radio.

I am disabled and need to find something to make a few extra dollars......my meds and docs are very expensive. Who knows this might be it. My plan is a hot box type preamp with more of a marshal type sound and tighten it up for a blues sound too. I dont usually use a real clean sound but would like to have a smooth channel for playing chords and fill in/s. too.

if nothing else it is exciting to have something to do and i will have more equipment to play in our praise group at church...we work real hard and it is lots of fun.

ok rambling again....they will regret letting me post here before it is over.....lol.

many thanks for all the brains here, as soon as i get one cranking i will post.....all of my parts should be in by monday.

Hi guys,

Got the trannys in on christmas eve. Been too busy or not feeling good ever since. My radio room is so cluttered up i want to clean up first. Did a quick parts ck and think i have everything i need. Bought some more caps over the holidays to make sure. I keep all the resistors in stock. AS soon as I get one going I will post it here. thanks for the knowledge shared here and all the encouragement.

hi guys

been sick and had to fix my ham radio..........got table cleaned off and ready to get back to my preamp project. Pray for me that I feel like finishing the two i have started. I hope I have all the caps i need ....think so . Man things move slow around my place. Have one more rf amp to finish for a friend that is way behind....(the last one i build unless it is for myself.)

I am excited about enjoying radio not working on it all the time. I am more excited about building some preamps and then a complete amp next for a nice cab i have ...it is a hartke base cab with the alum speaker cone. It is a punchy bass amp speaker.....have no idea what it sounds like in a guitar amp so i put it in my windsor along with two new jj 12au7 tubes. we will see sunday what happens.

I realize this is the wrong place .....but has anyone tried the hartke alum cone speaker on guitar?......i am in to overdrive more than heavy distortion.

bless you guys....i will post on the preamp as soon as i smell smoke.....

Hey Davis,

Glad you are feeling better! .........RF amps? I always wanted to build a radio receiver, not sure whats involved though. Maybe you can start a new tread and teach us something new???

Never tried that speaker, good luck with that!
