I have some 6l6 tubes and some 5u4 rectifier tubes....as you know they both use the same octal socket.

can you tell me which is which......I could go to a tube database and compare heater pins and such but i though someone here could help me to make sure. Tonight my studio windsor started making crazy noises.... (both preamp tubes have been needed to be replaced). I will just order some ........
In the mean time i need something to play this weekend and have a spare peavy 212 vx classic that needs two power tubes (6l6). I ordered some rectifier tubes for a future project and now dont know the difference.....I am almost sure the two tubes i found tonight are the 6l6 russian tubes. they have pins 1 and 7 left out. I think my rectifier tubes are somewhere in my junk back there..... I can start by checking the two heater pins..... but if you can help me I would really appreciate it.

I know this is a loaded question...so when I order some tubes I also want to order some ( preamp tubes)..... are the electroharmonics the best for the money. I like a blues over drive type sound...not a real loose hard rock sound.

I also find i like the 12au7 better in most cases than the 12ax7 tubes. All the local music store has is the plain russian 12ax7 white box tubes.....and they are priced higher than i can get them too. I think the electroharmonics are russian too though.

thanks ....I know this is two different questions but your help is invaluable.

davis

because of being microfonic when thumped.

sorry about the dumb post....it was late when i got home from practice last night and made the post before I checked it out.

The tubes i have found are 6l6 russian tubes i bought off of ebay sometime back.

I still have to find two rectifier tubes back there ......just did not feel like looking for them today.......they only have four pins 2,4,6,8. (that are used anyway)

I use a great shareware program "2 TDSL"........

thanks anyway......
